Abstract : Microporous Polypropylene(PP) membranes are used in a variety of industrial application, as they are one of the cheapest polymer membranes with acceptable thermal, mechanical and chemical stability in commercial application. It must be pointed out that microporous polypropylene membranes could serve as good separators in Ni/MH batteries; the only problem is the inherent hydrophobicity of polypropylene. To be wetted by an aqueous electrolyte(6M KOH solution) the separator property needs to be modified to hydrophilicity. Therefore, the process of sulphuric acid, treatment of plasma or corora is tried to improve the hydrophilicity of polypropylene separators. The aim of the present study was to prepare a hydrophilic polypropylene separator that can be used as a separator in Ni/MH bettery. To make the hydrophilic polypropylene separator we tried to produce nonwoven web of polypropylene polymer solutions with polyethylene glycol(PPG) concentration which was a hydrophilic material by electrospinning method. The PP/PPG nonwoven web was investigated physical properties. Furthermore, we made for application of separator for Ni/MH bettery and they showed good electrochemical properties.
